Cream Teas at Valence

After last year's enforced "miss", Sharon Millward's Cream Teas are back again, though in a slightly different guise.  You can support the Stan Millward Association by booking your place at Sharon's home, in Valence, and look forward to: a pair of beautifully crafted scones smothered in rich cream, unctuous strawberry jam and a layer of fresh fraise plus a drink of your choice and free entry into a daily raffle. Who could ask for anything more?

Luxury Cream Teas

These will take place from 3pm to 5pm on 8 Saturday afternoons through June, July and August. Each event will be limited to 30 guests and tables will be spaced at generous distances to conform to current regulations. Here is what you will get:

  • Two generously-sized scones, each one split and filled with delicious strawberry jam, followed by a layer of luscious fresh strawberries which will be covered by wonderful thickly-whipped cream and then topped by the other light-as-a-feather half scone. Each scone will be freshly baked that morning by Lydia Jackson, owner of Gâteaux in Tusson; she is making these delicious confections to support the association. Sharon says "these are the best scones I have ever tasted"; high praise indeed!
  • A drink of your choice from freshly made tea or coffee, various wines, and a selection of beers; your choice should be made when you finalise your reservation
  • Upon arrival each guest will be automatically entered into a free raffle to be drawn the same day at 4:30pm. There will be 3 quality prizes to be won each afternoon

All of this for only €10

As usual, all profits will be donated to Association Améthyste, Dépt d'Oncologie, CHAngoulême (aka Girac).

Each Cream Tea must be reserved and paid for in advance. You can pay by online bank transfer or cheque, payable to Association Stan Millward. A provisional booking will be acknowledged by e-mail and then confirmed upon receipt of payment.

  • You can reserve places at more than one Luxury Cream Tea; orders will be accepted on a “First Come, First Paid and Reserved” basis
  • Takeaway orders for these delicious “Luxury Scones” can be placed and paid for with your reservation
  • An alternative vegetarian and/or vegan wedge of cake will be available for order, too – either as part of your Cream Tea or to Takeaway
  • Also, non-dairy scones for your freezer can be ordered

To book your place: please contact Sharon by email or phone her on 05 45 22 87 36. Remember to mention:

  1. your preferred date
  2. the number of people you are booking for
  3. a preferred beverage  for each person

Association Améthyste

Thanks to the tremendous support given to the Stand Millward Association, Dr. Liebaert – oncologist and Vice President of Améthyste – reported that by the end of April the final delivery and installation of the refrigerated bedside cabinets was complete. All 18 beds on the residential ward now have such a cabinet.

Each cabinet costs over €1,000. Congratulations everyone for your stalwart support, long may it continue. It has made such a positive difference to the everyday lives of each patient.

Early Evening Apéritifs

An additional four fundraising events are rather special, too. The owners of the multi award-winning Maison de Charente have joined with us to offer you a mouthwatering selection of tasty food, washed down with a glass of Roland Vilneau's excellent rosé wine. Also available is a generous glass of the renowned locally-produced pineau from l'Oisellerie – my absolute favourite for the past nine years !

Please see the attached posters for full details of the menu – which is offered at the exceptionally great price of 12€50 per person. For those of you who prefer not to eat foie gras, there are alternatives – to include pilons ( drumsticks ) marinaded in herbs and gentle spices then slow-roasted to retain the flavours and other tasty options.......By all means ask for further information.

Menu Apéro Spécial New Horizons

  • Foie Gras entier mi-cuit Brioche Perdue au Foie Gras
  • Saucisson Sec Pur Canard Magret Fumé
  • Grillon de Canard Pain aux Céréales et aux Graines
  • Un Verre de Rosé de Roland Vineau offert

A traditional glass of locally produced award-winning Pineau is available to order for 2€50 to round off this Special Evening

So if you'd like to help us to raise money for those who suffer from and live with cancer, just send me an email or give me a call 05-45-22-87-36. As always, you can count on a warm welcome and tasty treats, prepared and cooked on their premises by Jean and Maude and their team.

The chance to win one of three excellent Raffle Prizes at each Apero Evening is also included in the price of your 10€ ticket.

Once the dates have been finalized, Sharon will get back to us with full details.
